Having worked for ten years as an actor, Richard Evans made the move into casting in 1989, and was the first freelance casting director in the UK to specilise solely in all types of theatre. As more casting directors began to move into the medium, he diversified and has since been associated with a wide variety of productions in every media.
Richard believes in quality rather than quantity when casting, far preferring to bring in a handful of carefully selected artists who fit the brief for each character - ascertained during meetings with the rest of the creative team - rather than a huge number of people, many of whom are simply not right. He visits the theatre several times a week, as well as watching television and films to ensure his extensive knowledge of performers and their capabilities is always up to date and always strives, whenever possible, to fully integrate casting regardless of race, disability etc, so applications from all artists are positively encouraged.
He is a member of The Casting Directors' Guild of Great Britain and Ireland.
